CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a federal immigration program in Canada that allows foreign workers with skilled work experience in Canada to apply for permanent residency. To be eligible, individuals must have at least one year of full-time work experience in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 job categories in Canada within the three years prior to applying, as well as meeting other criteria such as language proficiency and adaptability. The goal of the program is to facilitate the transition of skilled foreign workers who have already established themselves in Canada to become permanent residents.

 

This is 1 of the 3 federal programs managed through Express Entry, our online application system for skilled workers.

 

MINIMUM REQURIEMENTS 

 

  • You must have at least 12 months of full-time work experience (or part-time equivalent); 

  • This work experience must be within the past three years preceding submission of the application and while under temporary resident status with the authorization to work 

  • The work must be in a TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 job categories. Your work experience can be in 1 or more of these categories.

  • You must perform all essential duties and most of the main duties s set out in the lead statement of the occupational description in the NOC. 

  • You are not eligible for CEC if: 

    • You’re a refugee claimant in Canada 

    • You’re working without authorization 

    • Your work experience was gained without temporary resident status in Canada

  • You must live outside the province of Quebec. If you’re a Provincial Nominee, you must settle in the province or territory that nominated you.  

  • You must be admissible to Canada 

  • Self-employment and work experience gained while you were a full-time student doesn’t count towards the minimum requirements for this program.

Education 

  • There is no education requirement for CEC. However, you can improve your rank in the Express Entry pool if you: (1) went to school in Canada (secondary or post-secondary institutions) (2) if you have foreign education (that is equivalent to a Canadian secondary or post-secondary institution)

 

Language 

  • You must meet the minimum language level of:

    • Canadian Language Benchmark 7 for TEER 0 or TEER 1 jobs or

    • Canadian Language Benchmark 5 for TEER 2 or TEER 3 jobs

  • You must take approved language tests for:

    • writing

    • reading

    • listening

    • speaking
