ONTARIO NOMINEE PROGRAM

The Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP) is a provincial immigration program in Ontario, Canada that allows the province to nominate individuals for permanent residency in Canada. The program is designed to support the economic development and competitiveness of Ontario by attracting foreign workers and international students with the skills and experience the province needs.

To be eligible for the OINP, individuals must meet certain criteria, such as having a job offer from an Ontario employer in a high-demand occupation or having graduated from an eligible institution in Ontario. The OINP offers several streams, including the Human Capital Priorities Stream, the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream, the Skilled Trades Stream, and others, each with specific eligibility requirements. Successful nominees are able to apply for permanent residency through the Federal government.

OINP allows Ontario to target applicants in certain sectors who can help meet the local labour market and economic needs of Ontario.

The applicant must intend to settle and live in Ontario.

Foreign nationals may qualify for processing under ONIP through one of the following processes:

  1. Express Entry: ONIP has a Human Capital category that is processed through the Express Entry system. applicants already in the selection pool for Express Entry will receive a notification that they are being invited to participate in OINP.

  2. Apply directly: This is where the applicant applies for OINP directly to Ontario. This process is typically employer driven and requires a job offer and a work permit.

Once you receive a nomination certificate the foreign national must submit an application for PR to IRCC. The officer will then make a final decision by taking into consideration the following factors: economically established, intention to reside in Ontario and whether they and their dependents are in Canada.
